Lucas Neal

Lucas Neal is a theatre designer based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.

Lucas (he/him) first began designing sets in Wellington in 2015, since then he has worked across New Zealand and Australia as a set designer, spatial designer, lighting designer, graphic designer, costume designer, operator, production manager and technical manager. In 2023, Lucas joined Te Herenga Waka Victoria University of Wellington as a lecturer of scenography.

Lucas is the recipient of two Wellington Theatre Awards, Set Designer of the Year in 2022 and Most Promising Newcomer Award in 2017, he also received nominations for set design in 2019, 2021 and 2023. Lucas has a Masters in Fine Arts from Victoria University of Wellington.

Lucas is also a baker and appeared on TVNZ’s The Great Kiwi Bake Off in 2022.
